WingsNet Program Created For Teens [05-23-2008]
Children living in residential homes have an especially difficult time when they turn 18 years old, because they are no longer in the "system" And without the support of a family, they are on their own with no one consistently there to help them when they have a financial or personal problem. They live in a "netless" society with no one there to "catch" them if they make a mistake.
That’s why Wings of Hope is pleased to announce the creation of WingsNet in April 2008, designed to assist teens as they transition to adulthood and self-sufficiency. It will give teens the opportunity to earn additional income by working, saving, and completing academic goals.
Because the program is structured more like earning a bonus, rather than receiving a handout, our hope is that it will encourage each young adult to build a sense of self-reliance and independent skills.
This new program was made possible by a $25,000 donation from Wings of Hope and in partnership with the Children’s Home Society in Volusia County.
