Your Donations at Work February 2019
During the fourth quarter of 2018, $7,249.00 was given to assist at-risk teens and young adults who have aged out of foster care (between 18-22 years old) in Central Florida. Details are listed below, but first we want to let you know how your donations positively impact the youth in our community and particularly the following young person:
With love and support, even a life that appears doomed from the first breath can grow into a responsible and productive one. Many children are born into unbelievably destitute situations, and the fortunate few that find love and support have a chance for survival. Here’s one example among many cases of child neglect, abuse and abandonment:
An addict mother abandoned Traci and her siblings shortly after her birth. For the early years of her life, Traci moved among her father, relatives, family acquaintances, and foster care. In high school, Traci had the good fortune to have a heroic teacher who took her into her home and family.
With the help of a scholarship, Traci was able to attend a private school and led an active teenage life. After graduation, Traci was asked to move on with her life. With no place to go other than the street, Traci turned to a former tutor who helped her get accepted into The Faine House, a shelter for youth who age out of foster care. Traci now takes advantage of the shelter’s programs, activities, and classes, is enrolled in her second semester of college, and works part time at a restaurant.
Traci is confident she will continue to grow into a successful, responsible and
contributing member of the community. We are, too, thanks to your support
and caring for the Tracis of the world.

Happy recipient of Christmas gift from Wings supporters
Here’s specifically how funds were used October through December 2018:
- $ 3,328.00: academic achievement
- $ 300.00: life skills training
- $ 2,500.00: health/wellness
- $ 400.00: employment skills/performance
- $ 721.00: special needs

2018 Giving Summary
Although details of this report covers the fourth quarter of 2018, we thought it would also be a good time to summarize the accomplishments of the entire year.
We’re pleased to report that Wings of Hope contributed $33,500 in 2018 for our WingsNet program, which was developed to support at-risk youth in Central Florida. Although the program focuses on academic achievement and continuing education, it also provides for life-skills training, employment guidance, and help with special needs like unexpected health or living expenses.
Additional Needs
Throughout the year, we also receive requests for items needed in the group or transition homes that house at-risk youth. We’re pleased to help whenever we can with appliances, bedding, kitchen items, etc. In December, we provided Christmas gifts to 50 teens — young people who usually aren’t remembered during the holidays.
