Giving Report August 2013

Your Donations at Work August 2013

During the second quarter of 2013, $25,543.03 was given to assist at-risk children and young adults who have “aged out” of the system in Volusia, Seminole, Orange and Osceola Counties.

Details are listed below, but first we wanted to let you know how your donations positively impact the youth in our community and particularly the following young person:

Erin was a victim of her parent’s addictions. She was in and out of foster care beginning at the age of 7. When her parents were in prison, she was in foster care. When her parents were released from prison, Erin was returned to her parents but their addictions continued. “It was lonely; they didn’t want to take care of me. Drugs were more important.” When she was a teenager, Erin’s parents were sent to prison once again and Erin ended up at an emergency shelter. Immediately, things felt differently for her. “I felt the people cared,” she said. That’s all she needed to have hope for the future.

Since Erin has “aged out” of the system, she’s continued to receive support through Wings of Hope’s WingsNet program. WingsNet assists her with the costs of continuing her education, securing reliable transportation and living in safe housing. “Statistics say I should be like my family: addicted to drugs, no roof over my head. But I don’t want to be like that. I want to be my own person — strong, independent and responsible. You helped me realize I am somebody.”

Thanks Wings supporters – together we change lives!
